January 18, 2024 (San Diego) -- The National Weather Service is forecasting a major storm bringing widespread rain this weekend and early next week countywide, with thunderstorms possible in San Diego’s mountains, valleys and coastal areas. The storm is also expected to bring gusty winds, graupel (similar to hail) and lightning that could pose hazards to those outdoors.

eavy rains could create slick road conditions and ponding, so use caution if driving. Up to an inch of rain is forecast in many areas, with over two inches in the mountains. The storm is slated to hit our region starting Saturday, with the heaviest rain expected Monday and Tuesday.

Along the coast, high surf is forecast, with waves up to seven feet. This could create rip currents hazardous to swimmers.
